HEPBURN, Crime Reporter EIGHTIES pop highwayman Adam Ant was last night charged with pulling a gun on terrified customers at a bar. The chart legend — pictured above in the video for his No1 hit Stand And Deliver — threatened to open fire when he was refused entry, it is alleged. Ant — whose real name is Stuart Goddard — was wearing a white cowboy hat when he turned up at the nightspot. But the 47-year-old singer, whose others hits include Ant Rap, was turned away because the Prince of Wales in Kentish Town, North London, is a members-only bar. Hours later, Ant returned — and hurled a car engine-part through the bar's plate-glass window, according to staff who called police and dashed outside. They said they were confronted by Ant aiming the weapon at them. Armed cops raced to the scene and arrested the former star who was in his car nearby. Shaken landlord Frank Carter said last night: At about 5pm this guy was walking up and down the road outside like he couldn't find the door. He had a white stetson on and when he finally came in I thought, 'I've got a right one here'. It's a members-only pub so I said he couldn't come in — and that was that. We were really busy all evening with a full house. Just after 11pm there was this crash. He'd thrown a car alternator through the front window. We went outside and he pulled a gun. Apparently it was a World War Two revolver that had been handed down to him. I've been here eight years and it's the first time the police have ever been called. Frank added: "I heard he was from the pop world — but personally I didn't recognise him." Ant, of nearby Primrose Hill, North London, was charged with possessing a firearm, criminal damage and actual bodily harm. He is due to appear in court next Friday. |
