Wow, the power of prayer, eh?! I have to say, it's very hard to believe that Becks' injury and subsequent recovery are not a divinely inspired events! I mean, how else was the boy going to get 6 weeks of rest before the World Cup. Bring on those tired old Argies!!

DAVID Beckham steps out with wife Victoria — and all England sighs in relief.

Becks walked unaided from a London restaurant, proving he is recovering four weeks early from a broken bone in his left foot and on target for World Cup glory.

England skipper Becks, 27, ditched his plaster cast after making a miraculous recovery since breaking the bone less than a month ago.

The Manchester United star is FOUR WEEKS ahead of the schedule predicted by doctors, who feared he would miss out on the trip to Japan and Korea.

Last night top churchmen reckoned The Sun’s inspired campaign, in which we asked millions of readers to pray for Becks, lay behind the amazing comeback.

Prayers ... our call

Canon David Meara, who led pleas for divine intervention for Becks at our Wapping HQ, said: “It just goes to show the power of prayer.”

Becks’ dreams of World Cup glory seemed dashed when he was crocked playing Spanish side Deportivo La Coruna in the European Cup on April 10.

Medics said the injury would take eight weeks to heal, meaning Becks would miss the tournament beginning on May 31.

The Sun immediately urged the entire nation to pray for him, printing a picture of his left foot and asking readers to put their hands on it.

Canon Meara, of St Bride’s Church in London’s famous Fleet Street, said: “Our prayers have been answered. I am most thrilled and delighted to hear the plaster is off.”

The Rev Ken Batt, 60, vicar of Holy Epiphany in Bournemouth, Dorset, added: “It’s great news for David and England.”

In a huge boost for coach Sven Goran Eriksson, Becks plans to join the squad for its rest and relaxation trip to Dubai a week on Monday.

FA spokesman Paul Newman said: “We hope David’s recovery continues at this pace.”

The good news was confirmed as Becks was spotted enjoying a meal at the Embassy club in London’s West End on Saturday.

Becks, who was with Victoria and ten relatives and pals, was walking with a small brace on his foot which he later covered with a sock.

A fellow diner said: “He was in very good spirits and even managed to walk downstairs on his own.”

Meanwhile Becks has told Radio 1 how he thought being injured might earn him “a week in the sun” but instead resulted in a race to regain fitness.
